How can you apply for recognition?
Did you learn a profession in another country?
Do you need to have your qualifications recognised?
Then you can use the application service here
to send in your application online.
This website supports you every step of the way.
You can:
- enter all the data needed
for the application; - upload files of documents
that are part of your application,
such as certificates or references; - send your application online to the agency
that is responsible for you.

What happens after you send in your application?
The agency responsible for you will process your application.
It will check whether it can recognise your professional qualifications.
After that, the agency will get in touch with you.
What is the Recognition Finder?

The Recognition Finder is an important part of the portal.
It tells you exactly how to get your professional qualifications
from another country recognised.
There are explanations in English and German.
The Recognition Finder has a digital assistant.
The assistant will ask you questions.

For example:
- Do you already live in Germany?
- Did you learn your profession in an EU country?
- What city do you want to work in?
The assistant helps you find the right information
for your qualifications.
It also guides you through all of the steps you need
to send in your application online:

Who provides the recognition application service?
The application service is a project of
the Ministry of Employment, Health and Welfare
of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
You can reach the application service online at

The website is from the Federal Institute for
Vocational Education and Training.
The abbreviation is BIBB.
How does the recognition application service website work?
Buttons at the top
There are 2 buttons at the top of the website.

You can use the buttons to change the language
of the website.
The website is set for English.
You can click on the buttons.
Then the language of the website will change.
The left button changes it to German.
You will see the words on the website in German.
The right button is for simple language.
You will see information about this website in simple language.
How to return to the start page
You can find the logo of the recognition application service
at the top left of the website.

Click on the logo
to return to the start page.
What is on the main part of the page?
In the main part of the website, you will find everything
you need to know about your application for recognition.
On the left you will see the heading
“What you need to know first”.
Under that you will see three grey boxes.
There is a question in each of the boxes.
If you click on a question,
the box will open.
Then you can read the answer to the question:
I need to register. How do I do that?
This is how to sign up:
- You can use a user account,
like the Federal User Account.
If you do that, your personal data will
be added to the application.
You can save your application
and send it in later.
If you do not have a user account,
you can set one up. - Do you have an electronic German identity card?
Then you can use it to identify yourself
and send in your application directly.
Click on the red button above marked “Send application” if you want to send in an application with your user account.
Click on the button below marked “Send application”
if you want to send in an application with your identity card.
Can I also save my application?
This is how to save your application:
If you have a user account,
we will automatically
save your application for 24 hours.
You can open your saved application
the next time you visit the Recognition Finder.

What documents do I need?
In the Recognition Finder, you saw a list
of all of the documents you need.
You can see the list again.

you will find a blue area.
In the blue area, you can always see
which competent authority is responsible for you.
On the left, below the heading “Competent authority”, you will find:
- name of the competent authority

- email address

On the right, below the heading “Your contact”, you will find:
- your contact’s phone number
- your contact’s email address
